I know that the primary focus of these forums is on the WPS, but training is a life long process, so I figured it would be a nice idea to talk about what other professional firearms training you have attended and what you thought of it.
For pistol I have shot with:
Greg Elifritz - snub nosed revolver. It was a good course with plenty of "rolling thunder" style drills forcing you to make your reload before the line finished firing and you had to shoot again. I do wish that we have covered different reloading methods and spent more time playing with them to select the method that works best for each student.
Ben DeWalt - combat/defensive handgun. Ben covers a lot of drills and expects you to reload whenever you are dry in order to keep up. I was shooting a glock 39 so I reloaded a lot. Downside, he can be a bit crass (if that bothers you) and I had hoped for a little more focused coaching on my grip. At the time I felt like a dog chasing my gun down the street when shooting quickly, rather than someone driving the car.
Super Dave Harrington - defensive handgun. Lots of dry fire in the first half of the class, which was nice. Lectures more than the other instructors that I have shot with, which seemed to lose some people (like my wife) but overall still worth the time and money.
Rifle:
Kurt Drewell (Long rifles Inc) - Precision rifle 1. A decent primer for long range shooting, at the time the class went from 100-400 yards which looking back is quaint, but it was an enjoyable 2 day class and covered the basics of long range shooting from prone and worked in some UKD targets.
I would like to take a few more precision rifle courses (maybe with Frank Galli) that covered movers and in more dynamic wind environments. I have scored first round hits out to 1250 shooting PRS but that is still mostly a static sport.
For my handgun, eventually I would like to make it to Georgia with my wife to do WPS pistol 1 and 2. I don't feel like I'm chasing the gun as much as I used to, but I would like to shave more time off of my IDPA scores and I know my draw/first round time could always be improved. And I just enjoy taking classes with my wife. As a life long goal I would love to make it out to thunder ranch, as my grandfather and shooting mentor always wanted to and it would be nice to live out his dream. Gunsite would be another bucket list item.
