While the rifles and ammo for 6.8x51 or the Sig .277 Fury are hard to find or come by right now, we do have a cartridge that's capable of launching the same bullet weight at the same velocity that's about the same diameter, it's the 6.5 PRC. Out of my Browning X-Bolt I can get a 143gr Hornady bullet going 3000 fps which mirrors the 6.8x51's bullet weight and velocity with their commercial Hornady load listed on the Sig website.
I realize that the military will likely get a special bullet for armor penetration. All we can do is use what we have at hand. Even on the Sig website they only list two commercial loads for the .277 Fury, one is 130gr and the other is 140gr, both from Hornady. Hopefully we'll be able to get actual military rounds at some point and M5's that don't cost as much as a car. :D
