Parenting would be a lot easier if there was a simple formula we could use for every child. But there isn’t one. There's not even a good formula suitable for every unique family. For every distinct family, parenting is a fragile balancing act between teaching, protecting, and then giving responsibility to the child. As early as he can handle it. And then comes giving agency to the child to function in the real world from home base. And then comes launching the young adult into the world to take full responsibility for all his thoughts, his actions and his contribution to civilization. Will he follow evil? Or be a force for good? Or just go with the flow like a dead fish in the current?
