Until a few years ago I never put much thought into preparing for the future. Honestly, for a majority of my life I never even WANTED a gun. I felt it was too easy for someone to pick one up and end someone's life, and I didn't need one.

The Paris terrorist attacks in 2015 are what made me start looking into buying a handgun. It wasn't that I was petrified and just expecting a terrorist to jump me at the mall though. I read a few articles about civilians who pulled their concealed weapons and helped to defend others AGAINST the terrorists that pushed me to consider it. I started thinking, 'If EVERYONE there would have had a concealed weapon, that attack wouldn't have worked'. It wasn't until just this past year that I actually took the plunge, bought a Kiger 9c and got my CCW permit. That was unconditionally triggered by all the uncertainty in the world right now and I realized I'm behind the curve of being prepared if something would happen to break down society.

I'm still not what I would consider a 'prepper'. But I am a Boy Scout, and I believe unconditionally in being prepared. I joined the WPS to train and get as much knowledge as possible to try to catch up. I have an AR-15 that is bare bones and needs a serious rebuilt to be useful, and while I visit the range as much as I can, I still haven't even fired the AR (it's on my list, hopefully next week).

That was pretty much just a long-winded intro to where I am. Because I'm putting a lot of thought into, 'What happens if the world comes crashing down', I'm looking around and wondering if there are any communication plans at all between .... well ..everyone. This is the 'Warrior Poet Society', but this form is the only real society I've found? I know there are several other groups out there that do similar things like Dirty Civilian and Gerard Thumb (think I got that right). But I'm looking at the board and wondering, what happens if comms drops right now? We're all here, probably for more or less the same reason, to prepare. But if comms drop, what are we all doing?

I would think (or like to think at least) that the big groups would talk and have some kind of 'plan' in place. The world goes down, we all have our parts to a plan to 1. Safeguard our families, and 2. do what we can to help the people who are NOT prepared. I would think Ham Radio plans would be circulated; points of contact would be drawn up. But I'm not sure there is any kind of plan other than, 'Good luck, everyone on their own.'

So, if someone from WPS is around, would love to hear from you. Not trying to start any flame wars, honestly this is my first post here. Just hoping to start a discussion.

The main difference between Dirty Civilian, Garand Thumb and Warrior Poet Society is the former two give only technical information while WPS has also quite a lot of philosophy focused on everyday life and struggles, with the goal of becoming better men, not only better fighters.
As for some of the topics: I believe the first and most important thing is to gather/join a group of locals with similar worldview, similar interests, etc. As local as possible. Get to know your neighbors. You can't get a lot more than thought sand prayers from people half across the world, but you can get real help from your neighbor when you actually need it. And if you get into SHTF situation of any kind, no matter natural disaster or kinetic forces - this is the immediate community which has to survive.
HAM license (not as a final goal, but as a means for getting used to the equipment, and practice using it) is really good to have. I'm afraid you can't have a global HAM plan in case of SHTF, but local group is a must. I would expand it to a not only ham, but a complete communications plan - internet, cell phone, HAM, LoRa.

Actually no, I'm in Ohio. When the Paris attacks happened, I was just following the news.
I'm working on finding local groups. Sometimes it's hard to find the ones that are serious from the ones that are...well....nuts.
I'm a Development Engineer, so I tend to always try to think 2 or 3 steps into the future. Local survival is one thing, but after that is when organization happens. It seems short sighted to have a group that probably spans several countries, and not think of ways to get groups together in case of emergencies.
For example, if any WPS members are in the Ohio area, I would be interested in chatting with them. Not just for planning for emergencies, but perhaps also to train. Maybe that should be a separate forum separated by state/country, or another thread at least.
You probably couldn't have a global HAM plan, but if the local groups are clear there could be a place to post their HAM ID's and perhaps even a channel. I'm assuming the Internet will be a write off, cell as well. LoRa is a good option though.

You are right about local groups, quite a lot of nutjob individuals and waky groups. Also there are quite a lot of dying or sleeping groups that do nothing but talk. Unfortunately even in the serious groups there are always people which are too busy or too lazy too.
On the other hand skipping local level you can't actually have the help when you need it, when the situation occurs, cause people in the group would be just too far away.
Indeed localized forums will be an interesting idea. Unfortunately for me I'm an ocean away, but then again here I do have a local group and I have connected with some people that follow the WPS ways and at least several of which follow also the youtube channel (not sure if they are members here).
As for the com plans - Have in mind that people will always prefer what is convenient. Sometimes even at the price of security, unfortunately. Secure chats like Signal or Telegram will be preferred if there is internet connection. Also form opsec point of view they are more secure than an unencrypted HAM connection, where everyone can listen to you. I'm not sure about US, but here closed to public, encrypted HAM transmissions are forbidden. If the SHTF situation is natural disaster that is not a problem and some of our guys have had such operations, aiding as volunteers the firefighters/first responders with unencrypted radios. Butt if it is a kinetic situation encryption is a must. LoRa is indeed a good option not only in everyday situations and keeping connection, but also as a early warning system and most importantly - as a good C2 aid.
