So my 15yr old daughter is practicing to drive now which has aged me by at least 3yrs. Anyway I have decided to get dash cams for her car. Since I’ve experienced road rage and the way this society is going I got one for myself and wife’s car as well. I went with nextbase but there are a lot of good ones out there. Mine ran me about $500 with front and rear cam.

I’m also considering an app called life360 as well to track cell usage, speed, etc for her phone. Does anyone have any experience with it?

i am praying for you brother, my daughter is also 15 and my son just turned 17, i refuse to ride with either my nerves just cant handle it. lol
no experience with dash cams, but the family does have life360, it a good app my wife enjoys it she can track the kids and see how fast there driving, when the return home, if the made it to school on time and safely. I don't like it because for the simple reason of you have to be on it to see the kids so they can see you. than means my wife can see me when i am at the gun store. and i don't like being track.
try google family links. then you are just tracking your daughters phone. i dont know if that any better tho

personally I wouldnt go with life360, its tracking and recording everything, and you dont really know what that data is going to be used for or who they'll sell it to.

as Michael said, Google and microsoft both do a similar thing, and if you have a phone they're doing it already whether you've signed up or not. So at least with that you're not signing away any additional consents and making use of the data they are already collecting about you regardless.

As a 20 year old who grew up next to kids who's parents used Life360, I can say that there is nothing you can do that says "We don't trust you to handle yourself" more than making your kid use Life360. Dash cams are all well and good for keeping other people accountable, but if you don't trust your kid enough to operate one of the most dangerous machines... ever, then installing Life 360 is a band-aid that won't solve any problems and will say to your kid "Hey we don't trust you to make your own decisions." That's just my two cents.

Gavyn, i understand your point of view on life360 or other app like it. but as a parent it our job to protect and be responsible for our children. if my son is in a car accident and is hurt bad where he cant inform me, the app alerts us he was in a accident where and when, if my daughter is not at school by XV&Z the app alerts us, she maybe running late or broke down on the side of the road with no cell service. its has many applications other than tracking someone, though that is it base function,
its not about trust, my kids have no doubt that me and my wife trust them and they trust that their parents will not abuse the control that we have over them.
there is two sides to every coin, be willing to look at both.

Thanks for comments. The dash cam and life360 are two separate things to me. The cam is cuz of all the road rage stuff going on out there and for evidence in case of accidents. My kids know I trust them and as Michael said the 360 app was something I was considering for the ideas he mentioned. Thanks for the perspectives though, God bless
