This came up on the John Lovell show but it's something that's been in the back of my head for a while. The cloud can be altered but your DVDs and hard copies, not so much. Even little things like if you stream "House MD" you might not get the same soundtrack that it originally had because of rights conflicts. Sadly Malcolm in the Middle never made it to DVD other than the first season.

So what TV shows and movies and books are must buys for your personal library?

The three Lord Of the Rings movies extended editions is a big one for me. Liberty's Kids is another one.

That's an interesting question and thought exercise. I hadn't thought about my ebooks being "edited" behind the scenes without my knowledge. I don't really have any tv shows or movies that I'm tied to enough to have physical copies of them (although I have Band of Brothers on DVD somewhere). But books like the bible and some good reference-type books I love having physical copies of (Meateater hunting books, fishing guidebooks, and some wild game recipe books).

Less about the cloud versions being altered (or removed), in a grid down situation, we will still want and need entertainment. A solar panel and a laptop will get you the videos you have hard copies of, but throw some dice, decks of cards, board games and reading books into your footlocker as well.
We like the older sci-fi TV shows like star trek, Farscape, Battle star Galactica.
Throw in some Dr. Who, Blue Bloods, Simon & Simon, Highlander, and documentaries and we are covered.
Book wise, Louis L'Amour, Heinlein, Zelazny, Piers Anthony, Clive Cussler.
This doesn't include the survival style books or the foxfire series.

I do not work for the head War Poet, but his Amazon store (way to earn some creds on some stuff not stuff they are selling) has both a movie list and a book list.
Here is a tip for you...
Add things to a wishlist (you can make several if you like). You can sign up for CamelCamelCamel.com and it can alert you when prices drop on things in your wish list. You can always just use the wish list as a way to store the list and have it on your device, so that when you drop by the used CD, DVD or book store, you have it to jog your memory of items you want.

I am starting that path more in earnest as well!

I hate streaming and digital copies. I don't need busybodies editing my stuff. I want CDs, DVDs/ BR, and hardcover books.

Interesting idea. When I saw the title I immediately thought of stockpiling movies and shows from a time when they were safe for kids to watch. The stuff today for kids no by no means safe for kids to watch.
