Some friends and myself are looking for some good books to have incase, well you know, we need them. Looking for survival type stuff that we can trust. Like how to do things without modern equipment, and medicine. Can anyone recommend some good books for this? There's so many out there and I don't know what ones are reliable.

I'd recommend some of the Dave Canterbury books. His books are range from beginner to advanced survival techniques.

Check out "The Rugged Life" by Clint Emerson. Great info on a lot of topics.

Look into the James Rawls books. A few references books and a fictional novel series that has a lot of real medical, survival, and tactics demonstrated and explained through the course of the story. Believe “Patriot” is the first book. I’ll tell you now they are not the best written novels ever, but the info is good.

Can always download army manuals.

"How to stay alive in the woods" Bradford Angier. I really enjoyed the read through and the way that the chapters are laid out it is nice when in practical use. But nothing is a substitute for getting out and building the skills needed by training and learning hands on.

The Survival Medicine Handbook by Joe and Amy Alton is definitley worth consideration.

Another good one is Surviving the Wild by Joshua Enyart aka The Gray Bearded Green Beret. Very good book!

The Boyscout handbook is very under rated I would recommend pre 1995 but honestly the older the better. You can pick them up for cheap and the have a good all around base of knowledge. They cover everything from knots , medical to navigation. All useful when the SHTF

What skill level are you at? It is easy to waste a lot of time and money if you already have basic skills. City Prepping has put together "Prepper's Free PDF Library" on his blog. One stop shop for a lot of full length prepping / survival books. They run from very basic to extremely specialized. Be a good place to start.

I'll echo the James Rawles suggestion but specifically his "How to Survive the End of the World as We Know It: Tactics, Techniques and Technologies for Uncertain Times"

I went in with low expectations but I was very surprised at the quality. It is an excellent overview and you won't find clickbait or product placement. Instead it'll give you a good base so you can ask and answer better questions.

It might seem off-topic, but Kent Rollins of Youtube fame is an excellent source. The Foragers Guide to Wild Foods. FoxFire I & 2, Back to Basics (How to Learn and Enjoy Traditional American Skills). The Joy of Smoking and Salt Curing - complete guide to Smoking & Curing Meat, Fish, Game, and More, though technically y'all only need Salt.

Most of what our Grandparents understood about what is in our backyard, is lost. Google (or use Brave) EAT YOUR WEEDS ( GOOSE GRASS ) PLANT IDENTIFICATION. lambs quarter ... a lot of what we consider weeds are actually good for you, and I'm a Carnivore - just old school.
