I'm looking into attending a course in CA (Flying into Orange County or Ontario) but I am worried about checking in my guns and gear on my way back, mainly as my mags are not 10 rounds...I have flown to other states without any problems.
Anyone has any insight? Thanks in advance
CA penal code 32310, it’s only a max 1 year jail term for importing a magazine that holds more than 10 rounds; just wear a Beto shirt to court and you’ll get a slap on the wrist; in all seriousness, CA gun laws are (purposely) very complex and always changing, I personally do my training in Arizona, Texas, Utah etc etc. and avoid the woke states like the plague.
Thanks Elliot. Same here...but this one I really wanted to attend mainly with all WPS trainings in Nov being sold out :-(
Your balls are certainly bigger than mine. I wouldn't fly into a restricted state with standard cap. mags. I'm not a lawyer but I'm 100% sure ignorance is a terrible defense. What does the course host say about mag size? I would start with them first, and if they are somehow exempt from the capacity restrictions they should be able to accommodate or provide you with a legal path to getting your gear to the state. As gun owners we have a responsibility to be smart and not do things that reflect poorly on the 2A community.
Thanks for the comment...I did not say I was going...was pondering about it. Course host said he never had any issues traveling with his gear in/out of CA but he is a ret SOF...never heard of anyone being exempt from State regulations.
I personally would not take a chance regardless of how good he is or how badly I want to attend his course. That would expose me to or put me in a situation that doesn't make sense. Cheers!
military and law enforcement here in CT are generally exempt from mag restrictions
