Hey, fellow warrior poets! I'm about to make the big cry...err leap into night vision. Any suggestions for brands? I've been checking out US Night Vision and NVD. Both companies look good, but NVD has a 10 year warranty. Also, Wilcox G11 or Rhino II? I'd love to hear some real world feedback.

FWIW, my budget has me looking at Elbit white phosphor. 2200 FOM if I get the NVD, lower FOM if I get USNV.

Maybe I didn’t ask the right question, so I’ll throw this out there. After doing more research, I found that I can get a thin filmed Elbit with really amazing specs and clean picture, but for $300 more I can get a commercial grade unfilmed L3. The only thing is, with the exception of a higher SNR, it’s specs aren’t as good. Am I correct in thinking that superior specs, including a really low EBI, on the Elbit would put it close to the ballpark of the unfilmed L3 with lesser specs?

elbit tubes generally work better in higher ambient light conditions and are less suceptable to light wash, the unfilmed L3 tubes work better in lower light conditions but are more affected by lightwash from street lights. i have a steel industries PVS14 L3 2800 FOM tube and it works great out in the dark dark of the wilds, but the elbits and photonis tubes work better in more urban settings. on really dark nights both will require suplemental IR reguardless.
