Hey Poets, whats your favorite battle rattle?! What are your gear goals? Are you searching for the perfect backpack? What are you looking for in a plate carrier? What do you hate about your current setup? Whats the cheapest peace of kit that you are embarrassed for actually liking?
I have decided to take the MRDS plunge on my competition handgun. I attempted to run a Holosun 507K a year ago on my carry G48 but just wasn’t able to put in the training time needed. Now that I have the time and am jumping back into competitions, I’m running a 407C on my 19X. Looking forward to getting those dry fire reps in as the holsters arrive today!
Thats sounds like an awesome rig Ben! I am still stuck in the stone age with my iron sighted G17, looks like I tossed it in a blender 😂🤣 I am running a Streamlight TLR 7 in a TRex side car holster. I have one of the new Sidecars and an older model when the holster was made from two solid peaces. I do like the moldularity of the new Trex holster BUT I wish they still made their old model. I like to hear an audible "click", and the older version seems to use thicker plastics allowing for that "snap". Though this isn't by a large margin, I feel the older is slightly more rigid. I have a Safariland drop leg rig for overt use😃👍
I don't run an optic on my G19, but I did replace the stock sights with Tritium both front and rear. I like those a lot, especially once the light starts to dim. My rear sights didn't come with a set screw and I found that they walked around a bit, so I found and installed the proper set screw to keep them in formation.
I'm a big guy - let's say 80% muscle/20% dad bod lol - so finding a plate carrier and big enough plates isn't easy. I ordered XL stuff from Spartan and it looked like a toddler shirt on me. Now before you go off about armor isn't supposed to cover everything, I already understand it is only for vitals. The 10" width of the chest plate comes about 1-1/2 inches from my nipples and I'm pretty sure I have vitals there. Plus, with the size of my chest, the plates don't lie flat if I have the top of the plate lined up where it should be. I guess I'll just have to be the guy in the back who carries the .50 cal...
Hey Steven, I have heard of guys running smaller plates so they can be more dynamic but normally that means actually moving to small plates👀😂🤣 You must be a monster! I am glad your on our side👍😁👍I think they have larger SAPI plates out there, though off my head can't think of who. But SAPI is going to be more money guaranteed. I am running RMA lvl 4 plates in a AR500 Testudo with a North American Rescue IFAK and an extra TQ on the side. I have a Viktos ccw bag molled to the back that I stuffed with a Camelback into, and store a SnugPac poncho, and batteries for optics and weapon lights. I also have extra medical and a leatherman shears multitool in my range bin. Hope you find some bigass plates! Stay dangerous brother!👍😃🗽
Has anyone given the Aliengear shapeshifter a try?
I have the TRex side car, old version and new. You never really know what works till you try it out...👍
Yes I have it for the Sig M17.. its trash. I do not recommend at all.
I do for a range holster for the M&P 2.0. I modified the way you put it together just by moving/removing a couple of the pieces dropping it down an 1" or so. Fits my pistol very well, but my uncle got one for the same pistol and doesn't work as well...Holsters can be a bit of a pain, or they're flawless.
I have the Trex as well, but after a while it rides up my fat gut and you can see the profile! LOL I have been using the UM Tactical UM-TG Trigger Guard Holster System for my Glock as well and like it better...
So far, my WPS belt. I was cutting down trees and trimming up limbs on my property. The chainsaw took a bad hop and hit my left leg. With the help of my bride, we were able to use my 2-day old WPS belt as a tourniquet to stop the bleeding. Being out in the country, medical help took 20 minutes to arrive to where we were. Because of your belt I am able to fight another battle.
I have a AC1/Mayflower rig with HESCO plates and Kevlar backing pads. It's a heavy rig with 4 AAC mags. Use either a Gen 2 Glock 17 or a M&P 2.0. I'm usually soaked after a couple hours of practice.
Sounds like a great setup! Out of curiosity, what are your armor lvl ratings? Both soft and plate?
Can anyone tell me what brand are the mag bases shown on most of the War Poet pistols?
What about ears? What are you guys using - and how?
For example: I have a couple of sets of standard run of the mill electronic Wilson muffs. Turned on I can hear folks talk and protect my ears - even picks up voices better than my old ass ears. Range gear.
However, I have started staging them with my nightstand gear - one set of ears for each; my wife and I with the thought being that in a bump in the night scenario - we can enhance our hearing (I am 62) and protect our hearing - (and yes we practice various scenarios - I especially like the reward after I 'save' her - LMAO)
That works well at home in our safe room - but what about EDC? Anyone carry anything for their ears? If so, what?
Stay safe my War Poet Brethren
Not to jump on an old subject, but wanted to share what I have because it always fun to talk gear. Plate load out I have a first spear carrier with safelifes FRAS plates. Works out really well and is fairly light weight. I have used it through a bunch of courses without any issues. I run a DR920 with a holosun 507c green dot and a TLR 7a light in a Trex arms side car for EDC. Conceals really well, also helps that I'm also a bigger fella. I do have another plate set up with hesco plates in a Ferro concepts slickster also fits really nice and a Glock 45 milled with an RMR and TLR 7a light in the same Trex arms holster.
Anyone use the PHLster Enigma? I'm running a Tier1 appendix now and was wondering if anyone has any real experience not just youtube shill reviews.
I have and have used the Philster Enigma for about 2 years now with both my G19X and my G26. I like the enigma a lot - in the situations where I need it. It is tough to wear all day - (bathroom breaks can be a bit uggg) - but it works really well in that it attaches the holster to you - and then you put clothes on over it.
For jogging or wearing sweats and shorts just 'out and about' - I like it a lot. For 'business' dress - I tend to go with other options. I do think you need one in your holster line-up - it is really good where it shines!
Stay Safe Warrior
My plate carrier is an old AR500 Testudo Lite in desert tan (appropriate to where I live). I upgraded it for quick side entry with a kit from The Mercenary Company. I'm running III+ 11x14" Polyethylene plates and 6x9" III+ PE side plates. It's a very comfortable rig, and came from the factory with the velcro to accept IceVents. Given how difficult it is to find an 11x14 compatible plate carrier at all, let alone one with side entry, I'll call it a win. Note: I naturally have a very broad chest, so 11x14 plates were a must. This isn't by any means the full extent of my plate carrier setup, but that's the core of it.
