Hey fellas, what are some build problems that you've had? What brands pair well? What parts have disappointed you? what parts surprised you with their quality?
Im building an AR10 in 6.5 creedmoore, the bolt locks to the rear with a magazine installed but will not lock with the manual button press, feels like it wants to catch but just keeps going.. suggestions?
Interesting. I have two 6.5 Cr builds going right now, among about a dozen others lol. I'll keep an eye out for this issue and see if it happens to me too.
Hey, thanks for the question! I dont know if I can help but I hope I can. Is it the bolt release actually locking the BCG back or is the bolt getting caught by the follower in the mag...so if you pushed the mag release and took out the mag, the BCG would then slam forward into your barrel extension as if you had pushed the bolt release? Am I warm?
getting very warm, the bold release does not lock the BCG open, i can feel it grab "a little" but does not hold. the magazine does hold the BCG open and removing the mag, yep, bolt goes home..
Are you sure you have an AR10 bolt catch? Just curious if you may have an AR15 bolt catch.
I have seen this problem when a AR15 catch is used on an AR10 lower.
I have a little hunting AR build going on. The barrel is an 18inch 416 stainless fluted 300 Hamr from Wilson Combat. The BCG is a Aero Precision "PRO" model, whatever that means ๐๐.The handguard is a Wrenchmen precision by PWS for Brownells. Upper is an Aero without the forward assist. Gas block is from Odenworks. Regular 308 flash hider from Aero. My lower is the WWSD from Brownells. I have not settled on a optic. I was looking at maybe going with something from Arken...๐ค... That's just one of my personal builds!!๐๐๐โค๏ธ I hope it go's well๐ค๐
I've done a couple AR builds using PSA parts to get started, and was pretty surprised by the quality of the kits
I have a few builds with PSA lowers and parts kits and I was impressed as well. However I did notice that the recoil spring was a little under powered when compared to a Sprinco. But, if your not shooting full auto and carrier bounce doesn't effect you, then that doesn't matter as much...though you could say it would matter in adverse conditions...๐ค
The first "whole" gun I have from PSA is their Dagger 9mm, seems to be great so far ๐
I have a home build I built last year. It keeps having feed issues. Either it tries to feed a new round without the brass fully ejecting about 1 in 10 times or after a few rounds it seems to cycle, but nothing when you pull the trigger. Pulling the charging back enough to check to see if a round fed and releasing the charging handle and it fires another round. Ammo shows light strike dimple on primer. Happens about 1/3 of the time with multiple brands of ammo.
I did find some of the trigger pins had started to walk out so I replaced them with some anti-walk pins. I haven't tested it after installing those. I also changed out multiple parts in the BCG. (BCM extracter spring upgrade kit, BCM firing pin, cam pin) I haven't had a chance to get to the range to test those changes yet.
The upper is PSA, the lower is TN Arms. I tried different magazines.
Check to be sure your gas block is properly aligned to the hole in your barrel.
Also look to see if you see any evidence of gas leaking around the gas key on your BCG.
If both of those are fine you may need a heavier buffer.
Your brass should be ejecting at 3 to 4 o'clock.
Just a comment on the light primer strike...depending upon your ammo, I've found it to be pretty common for a dimple on the primer to occur just by chambering the round, especially with non-military rounds which I believe have "softer" primers.
Well, a BCM firing pin was relatively inexpensive. When I compared it the PSA one was about 3mm shorter than the BCM. Still haven't made it out to the range to test it.
That seems frustrating brother! Lets see if we can get your blaster, blasting. What is the length of your gas system and barrel? Also what buffer weight is being used? What is your barrels profile? Heavy? Government? Hbar? Pencil? What is your gas block? Pinned A2? Or is it a lopro, set screw?
My primary AR Build-
Lower: Sig lower because it has very nice ambi controls that actually work. Geissele SD-3 trigger and a JP captured buffer. MFT minimalist butt stock. The open bottom of the butt stock allows me to get the stock around the shoulder strap of my carrier and provides a great cheek weld.
Upper: Aero Precision 14.5 upper with an Aero BCG and Radian charging handle. SOLGW 3 prong hider/break and a Vortex Razor Gen 3 for the glass sitting in a Badger Ordinance mount. I also have an old school surefire M952V with the KM3 head.
So far this build has done everything I need it to do. I live in the burbs so I didn't need anything super short and anything beyond 500 meters (max I've taken this 5.56 out to) I have another rifle chambered in 7.62 for. The combo of the trigger and the JP captured buffer makes this rifle run so smooth.
The optic and the mount do make it a tad heavy but I "grew up" using an M16/A4 with M203 or M4A1 with M320, so the weight wasn't really noticeable for me personally.
Very detailed and to the point, nice!
Very cool build, I wish that I knew of sigs ambi lowers before I went "build crazy". I do have a 2nd build with a Geissele super semi automatic trigger in it! ๐คฃ๐ I love that Bill puts "super" in front of everything. But that trigger is a bad mamajama!!๐๐๐
