BIG CHANGE in how you see TRAINING

For those civilians, cops, and military persons who want to defend themselves and others, it is critical to get good training. Accomplishing this though can be a bit elusive as the next question follows: What type of training do I need. Sadly most simply buy a gun and call it a day. Others still may take a pistol class or even 2, but know the 'fight' is far bigger than a draw and a reload. It is about about seeing the fight before it happens, its about thinking quickly within the framework of what is tactically preferred, what is moral, what is legal, and then all the skills required to pull off the best decision. You can compile your own list based on your context, but here are some of the categories I've been trained in or am interested in - pistol skills, rifle / carbine skills, shotgun skills, use of cover and concealment, situational awareness, reading threat indicators, verbal judo / de-escalation, martial arts to include standup like Krav Maga and Muay thai, and ground game like brazilian jiu jitsu. Also, weapons centered martial arts from the use of weapons and the disarming of others' weapons. More areas of interest in training include emergency medical training, room clearing, fighting in and around vehicles, gunsmithing and ammunition reloading, low light tactics, night vision employment, small unit tactics, military history, mission planning, defensive driving, land navigation, communications, and survival skills. Train hard. Train smart.
